Dr. Sanford Barsky

Sanford Barsky, MD, PhD

Dr. Sanford Barsky is a professor and the Chair of the Department of Pathology at University of Nevada School of Medicine. He is the chief of pathology of Nevada Cancer Institute (NVCI) in Las Vegas. He is a pioneer of digital pathology and a widely known expert in the molecular biology of inflammatory breast cancer and mechanisms of metastasis of other cancers, including breast, prostate, lung and melanoma. According to his peers he is one of the brightest minds in the fields of anatomic pathology and cancer biology. Dr. Barsky is a board certified pathologist in anatomic and clinical pathology, a nationally recognized anatomic pathologist with over 25 years of pathology and cancer biology experience. He has been honored with the George N. Papanicolaou Endowed Chair of Pathology at UCLA. He has published more than 250 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He holds several honorary memberships in different societies around the country, including the National Institute of Health.

Dr. Jonathan Epstein

Jonathan Epstein, MD

Dr. Epstein is a Professor of Pathology, Urology, and Oncology at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions and is the recipient of the only endowed chair in Urological Pathology in the world, the Reinhard Professor of Urological Pathology. He is a leading expert in Urological Pathology, especially prostate cancer. He has been invited to lecture over 250 times including 30 different countries. His areas of particular interest are the diagnosis, staging and predicting prognosis for prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia and prostatic carcinoma, where he has published over 560 articles in the peer reviewed literature. In addition, he has authored or co-authored 44 book chapters and 8 books on urological pathology, including the 4th edition of Prostate Biopsy Interpretation, The WHO Classification of Tumours of the Urinary and Male Reproductive System, and chapters on the pathology of prostate cancer in the major textbooks for urologists, pathologists, and medical students. Amongst his most cited works are: 1) Determining the criteria for active surveillance (watchful waiting); 2) Updating the Gleason grading system; 3) New classification for bladder cancer; and 4) Several studies on correlation of pathologic findings with progression following radical retropubic prostatectomy.

Shriram Jakate, MD, PhD

Shriram Jakate, MD, FRCPath, is a Professor of Pathology, Gastroenterology and Hepatology and the Director of Laboratory Services at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He directs a busy GI/Liver pathology teaching program and provides diagnostic and consultation services in the fields of gastrointestinal and liver pathology. He is well known for correlative style of diagnosis and is nationally recognized for "glass-less" and "paper-less" consultation via virtual microscopy and for newly described conditions such as mastocytic enterocolitis and glycogenic hepatopathy. He is also known for the use of jumbo biopsy forceps in endoscopic surveillance biopsies and procurement of diagnostic tissue in submucosal masses.

P. Kolbeck

Peter Kolbeck, MD

Dr. Peter Kolbeck is the CEO and Medical Director of PathLogic. After receiving his MD from Emory University in 1982, Dr. Kolbeck began post-graduate education in anatomical pathology and immunopathology at Duke University Medical Center. Since this training he has been active in academic research, teaching and clinical service at three different major university medical centers — Duke, University of Nebraska, and UC Davis — and has authored or co-authored 35 research papers, written book chapters on nephropathology, and edited a book on transplant pathology. He has presented on various aspects of renal and transplant pathology at more than 20 national and international scientific venues. Dr. Kolbeck has directed an immunopathology research lab, three electron microscopy laboratories, and has provided expert renal biopsy interpretations to clinicians in several states for more than 20 years. In 1994, he entered private pathology practice in Sacramento and in 1997 was the president of one of the largest pathology groups in California. Dr. Kolbeck founded Path Logic in 1999. In addition to his management and professional activities with Path Logic, he currently also teaches at UC Davis Medical Center. Dr. Kolbeck is Vice President for the California Society of Pathologists (CSP) and is the CSP legislative representative to the California Medical Association (CMA).

Dr. Linder

James Linder, MD

Dr. James Linder is Chief Executive Officer of UNeMed Corporation, the technology transfer arm of the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where he is also Professor of Pathology and Microbiology. He earned his undergraduate degrees in Biochemistry and Microbiology from Iowa State University, and his Medical Doctor degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. After residency training in Pathology at Duke University he returned to the University of Nebraska, where he has been on the faculty since 1983. During this time he held many administrative positions, including Vice Chair of Pathology, Director of Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology, Dean of Medicine, and Associate Vice Chancellor for Research. He has extensive experience in the private sector, as Chief Medical Officer for Cytyc Corporation, Marlborough MA,, and currently Chief Medical Officer of Constitution Medical Investors. He published extensively, authored 5 textbooks, helped lead numerous professional organizations, and served on numerous editorial boards. His research interests have centered on the application of new technology in medical diagnostics, including, molecular and immunodiagnostics, informatics, telepathology and cellular imaging. He is married to Karen A. Linder SCT (ASCP), a leading cytotechnolgist and President of Heartland Pathology in Omaha, NE.

Dr. Liron Pantanowitz

Liron Pantanowitz, MD

Dr. Liron Pantanowitz is a board certified pathologist in Anatomical & Clinical Pathology and has additional board certification in Cytopathology. He is a practicing pathologist at Baystate Medical Center where he is also the Director of Pathology Informatics for Baystate Health in Springfield, Massachusetts. He is an Assistant Professor of Pathology at Tufts University School of Medicine. He did his pathology residency training and hematopathology fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School, in Boston, Massachusetts. He serves on the editorial board of several medical journals, has published over 250 medical and scientific articles, written 20 medical textbook chapters, and has received several academic and research awards. He shares a strong interest in the fields of informatics, research and HIV/AIDS Oncology.
